We were able to manage a full of complexity scenario, a changing and diverse reality, with satisfactory and positive form with a clear commitment to new and ambitious projects developed throughout 2015.

Our European and international profile has been strengthened with the addition to our team of new senior engineers, with solid industry knowledge and fluency in several languages (German, Polish, Russian, English). These additions allow us to respond to a more diverse global audience. Stemm’s production is clearly focused on export sales, where in 2015 our exports have accounted for 82% of our total sales volume. This year we have been present in a total of 15 countries throughout the world. Notably, we have developed several projects in emerging countries like China, India, UAE and South Africa. At European level, we have worked mainly for environmental sector (waste management and water waste) in Poland, Belgium, Italy and France.

In this annual report, we do not want to miss the opportunity to highlight some summary of the projects and services launched by Stemm during 2015.

GRAB CONNECT® REMOTE SERVICE

After a thorough process of research and development by our R+D+I department, we have launched this year our new service called GRAB CONNECT® remote control. We are proud to be the first and only company in the world to offer this type of service that allows a perfect remote diagnostics, check and control our machines remotely and in real time. GRAB CONNECT® is an optimal tool for control operations and preventive maintenance, including the launch, variation of parameters, pressure, etc.

Thanks to the GRAB CONNECT® kit for remote control, customers now learn in real time from a computer or smartphone, all sequences in both manual production process with operator on board the crane, as in semi-automatic and fully automatic processes, knowing the incident, warning signals and temperature alerts, state of filters, oil levels, hours of operation, number of operations, etc. The system constantly sends reports to maintenance and operating personnel reporting any incident, anomaly, recommended change of spare parts, changes planned operations reviews. All of it as a part of the preventive maintenance system.

The system also allows to receive real-time technical support professionals from Stemm and continuous monitoring of production.

In Stemm we have seen the benefits this solution brings to our customers and your satisfaction is proof of that. The data and reports provided by the system via email allow to plan maintenance actions and to make key decisions on investment in preventive maintenance.

Throughout 2015, we have supplied several Stemm grabs for the Brazilian steelmakers GERDAU GROUP plants. Again, the Brazilian company has relied on our teams by reaching the highest levels of quality and incorporating the latest cutting-edge technologies existing in the market.

These grabs have a capacity of 6.3 m3 with a weight of 13,000 kg with installed capacity of 55 kW.Eight special grips with removable whole shells make this kind of grabs ideal and versatile to handle all kinds of scraps (fragmented, structural or packets) and pellets.

Our orange peel grabs have easily detachable and removable hydraulic group, which incorporates next-generation peripherals, with a variable flow and pressure regulation system piston pump and Load Sensing. This type of grab is designed and calculated to work 24/7 continuously with total reliability.

CONSTRUCTION OF JETTIES AND BREAKWATERS INCLUDING SUBMARINE DREDGING IN DUBAI (UAE)

Stemm is involved in the ambitious project of Palm Islands civil works, a set of three artificial islands shaped like a palm tree larger world which is being built off the coast of Dubai (UAE). Our equipment acquired by the state-owned Nakheel Properties, are being used in projects Palm Jumeirah, Palm Deira and Palm Jebel Ali.

Stemm equipment specially developed to work in these works were:

a) Mechanical claws grabs with half-shell for handling rocks in the formation of breakwaters and dikes.

b) Mechanical grabs with whole shell for handling sand, mud and small stones.

c) Hydraulic grabs with especially adapted shell like claws grabs to be mounted on Liebher cranes. Specially designed for dredging in ports and coasts for the handling of stones and rocks on the seabed.

d) Electro Hydraulic grabs with whole shell claws, fully waterproof to manipulate sand and mud in dredging fund operations, pre-positioning of platforms and structures of oil and gas pipelines. Such grabs are designed and developed to work at great ocean depths.

All the machinery sent to the UAE has been provided with a PLC and equipped with sensors that provide all the information required for maneuvers and real time machine status. Likewise, each machine has an automatic self-correction positioning on the seabed.

INNOVATION AND CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT IN HANDLING EQUIPMENT FOR BIOMASS AND WASTE SOLID WASTE

Due to the increasing demand in the field of biomass and waste treatment sector in recent years, Stemm bet heavily in this sector through its wide range of products. In this regard, it is important to mention the Framework Waste Management (PEMAR) recently approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, which sets the strategic guidelines for waste management in the next six years and the necessary measures State Plan to meet EU objectives in this area.

Among other issues, the PEMAR indicates the regulations for the preparation, reuse or forms of energy recovery from waste. In this sense, the technical committee gives requirements for equipment to be used, especially in regard to grabs, are the right type designed and manufactured in Stemm or similar.

Our "smart" and state of the art grabs allow for better regeneration and increased energy savings, which are perfectly suited to the requirements of the sector. We also have self-diagnostic methods and continuous communication of incidents via WiFi, with both production equipment and maintenance. This pioneering system of communication is one of the mandatory premises that, in the future, should incorporate all the equipment of automated plants.
